About the Project
This piece is one I've wanted to do since I first started learning Unreal in college. I think it's so fun and vibrant, and the architecture was really fun and difficult to translate into 3D space. I wanted to expand on techniques I learned making the Big Beaver and get more practice making solid, well optimized meshes.
House Breakdowns
I tried to approach the house itself like it was one big prop. All of the 3 buildings were sculpted, then UVed and textured in the same scene both for better management and uniformity. I used game-ready techniques and baked the textures from a high poly sculpt.
Foliage
To get stylized grass, I ended up using a method that involved Runtime Virtual Textures. By linking the landscape blend material to the grass color through RVT, I could paint areas I wanted to be different shades in real time.
